- Notes & Quotes document pretty much exactly 2,000 – you’ve met the deadline and have already got a good selection of relevant web research.
- Textual analysis is Task #1 – I agree you’ll need to do this at home due to lack of content online. The most important thing is to pick two (or more) short scenes and then do an extremely detailed textual analysis.
- I completely that your choice of text and topic will make research a challenge – it’s brilliantly contemporary but that does mean there’s less to research! However, look again at Media Mag, Jump Cut etc. E.g. MM51 – an introduction to representation. I’m pretty sure it will be useful as notes even if you don’t get any quotes. And remember – it ALL goes in your bibliography. eJump Cut is also very good – search widely (Narcos, Netflix, Latino, Hispanic etc.) E.g. http://www.ejumpcut.org/trialsite/-JenkinsNetflix/2.html
- Academic books/journals/dissertations are the big area for development. Use Google Scholar and the BFI trip to develop this area. Look at Television Culture in DF07 and also give Gilroy a try (this is British culture but you may find relevant points you can apply to American culture and Narcos). The other theorists you could consider are Alvarado and Edward Said – these were not specifically on Latino representation (more black and middle east) but again could potentially be applied to different races and ethnicities. Check the PDFs on the system again too.
- Theory is looking like an area to develop – will need to find some on this (your academic research may help here). You might want to look at some effects theory (e.g. Gerbner cultivation theory) regarding the influence TV has on its audience.
- Task #1 – make sure you get the analysis of your primary text done for next week and keep working through the academic research.
